Securing our Future - the $2 Million Challenge Campaign
Lyell B. Clay, a loyal YWCA supporter, was a visionary with his $2 million challenge matching gift. He realized the important role the YWCA plays in the greater Kanawha Valley and wanted to see the organization sustain its important social service role in the community for many years to come. Therefore, Mr. Clay issued a challenge to the YWCA to endow its social service programs. He offered a $2 million gift from the Lyell B. and Patricia K. Clay Foundation if the YWCA could match those funds.
Thanks to nearly 500 generous donors, we successfully met Mr. Clay's challenge by our December 31, 2009 deadline! Later this month, watch for more official announcements and a special edition newsletter dedicated solely to the volunteers and donors that made this campaign a huge success and to whom we are grateful beyond words.
Why did the YWCA raise this money?
YWCA clients are encouraged to become self-sufficient and financially stable. The YWCA believes in modeling its advice to our clients and therefore launched a campaign to become more self-sufficient and less financially reliant on vulnerable government funds.
Who led the $2 Million Challenge?
The YWCA Board of Directors and community leaders joined together to organize this fundraising initiative. Elizabeth Pellegrin and Freddy Davis served as co-chairs of the $2 Million Challenge Campaign Committee.
$2 Million + Your Help = $4 Million
To those who supported the $2 Million Challenge campaign, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your gifts were matched dollar-for-dollar and will ensure that the YWCA continues to deliver its critical social service programs to thousands annually in Kanawha, Clay and Boone counties.
