(Charleston, W.Va.) – “Twenty-four days. Twenty-four clues. Are you a part of the underground?”

Beginning April 1, that’s the question 24 businesses around the city will be asking their customers through mysterious displays about an initiative called “24: The Underground.” This city-wide movement involves collecting clues and visiting the initiative’s website (24theunderground.com) to ultimately piece together the location and details for the can’t-miss event of the season – an “underground” rave event the evening of Friday, April 24, benefitting the YWCA of Charleston.

This unique community initiative is part of the YWCA of Charleston’s recently announced 24 for 24 Pledge – a campaign targeting the 24-44 age demographic and utilizing new technologies to encourage individuals to donate $24 a month for 24 months to benefit the YWCA of Charleston’s social service programs and be matched dollar for dollar through the YWCA $2 Million Challenge. Non-traditional fundraising methods such as these are becoming more and more valuable for nonprofits like the YWCA of Charleston due to the ailing economy.

24: The Underground is the brainchild of the YWCA marketing & development office in collaboration with numerous other creative volunteers, including Alex Morgado of Blackwell & Co. and the team at Maple Creative.

Each day from April 1 through April 24, a different local business will be announced as a clue location on Electric 102.7 (listen daily at 6:24 a.m., 7:24 a.m. and 8:24 a.m.), as well as in both The Charleston Gazette and the Charleston Daily Mail and on 24theunderground.com.

All 24 clues pieced together will reveal a black and white photo of the event’s location, complete with a Google map URL. Another incentive to collect clues is that each clue presented at the door equals $1 off the event’s $24 admission. Those who are unable to collect clues or hear about the event too late can simply visit 24theunderground.com, where the location will be revealed the morning of April 24.

A warehouse venue, New York City DJ, music, glow sticks, food, drinks and more will all contribute to the event’s “rave” feel.

“The 24: The Underground initiative is a great way to get the whole community involved and create a city-wide buzz about an exciting event benefitting a great cause,” stated Laura Jordan, Director of Marketing & Communication at the YWCA of Charleston.

Be a part of the underground. Collect the clues. Visit the website. Know where to be on April 24.
